Nothing To Celebrate
Six states held primary elections yesterday, but the one most watched was the Democrat primary for governor of Wisconsin. Democrat socialist Francesca Hong, the looniest of loons, lost by only 3,700 votes out of 685,000 cast. While many are glad she lost, her defeat by such a narrow margin is nothing to celebrate. She should have been crushed in a landslide!
Fox News commentators, and even some elected Republicans, were making a big mistake all morning. They said the socialist Hong was defeated by a “moderate” Democrat. He isn’t a moderate. He’s just less crazy than her.
I can forgive the Fox commentators, but elected Republicans who are calling these far-left Democrats “moderates” aren’t helping anything. It’s like saying Vladimir Lenin is “moderate” compared to Joseph Stalin.
Just a reminder, friends, before Zohran Mamdani, before Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, before Hong who wanted to cancel Thanksgiving, we were all saying, including President Trump during his State of the Union address, “These people [meaning establishment Democrats] are crazy!” That was the mantra. “These people are crazy!”
Why were we saying that? Because they wouldn’t reject the forced transing of children. They wouldn’t secure the border and enforce our immigration laws. They called for defunding cops on the street and our immigration police. They support unlimited abortions all nine months of pregnancy, and they demand that you pay for them. The list goes on.
But now because these crazy Democrats are beating people who could actually qualify for a straightjacket, some Republicans are calling the crazies “moderate” and acting like they’re sane.
We have got to stop turning unacceptable leftists who narrowly defeat Marxists into “moderates.”
The Crazy Party
Minnesota’s Democrat Senate primary is an excellent example of just how unhinged today’s Democrats are. Democrat Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanigan won in a landslide against Rep. Angie Craig. Craig was endorsed by Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries and Nancy Pelosi—the entire Democrat establishment. Yet she suffered a historic defeat.
Why? The far-left was furious that Craig voted for the Laken Riley Act. That common sense law requires the federal government to detain illegal aliens who have been charged with certain crimes, including burglary, theft, assaulting police officers and manslaughter.
But that issue—detaining and deporting criminal illegal aliens—likely killed Craig’s campaign. It wasn’t long before she was running around Minnesota saying, “I regret that vote.” She showed she was weak by trying to appease the party’s radical open borders base.
So, Democrat voters gave a landslide victory to the lieutenant governor, who was there by Tim Walz’s side as he gave hundreds of millions of dollars to Somali fraudsters. The same woman who wore a shirt that read “Protect Trans Kids” with a picture of a dagger on it. The same woman who stood by the mayor of Minneapolis after he mocked the prayers of children murdered in a church by a deranged transgender killer.
These narrow elections—Hong’s loss in Wisconsin and El-Sayed’s win in Michigan—are proof positive that all over the country, not just in Manhattan, the Democrat Party is split between insane and somewhat crazy. But they are all dangerous to faith, family and freedom.
Speaking Of Language. . .
On any given day, I hear dozens of liberal commentators, conservative commentators and elected officials talking about “Medicare for All.” Of course, the Democrats use that rhetoric—they want government-run healthcare. But it is shocking how often I hear elected Republicans say, “My opponent is so bad, he wants Medicare for All.”
When they say “Medicare for All,” it sounds great to many Americans struggling with healthcare costs. Why wouldn’t people want a “free” medical program paid for by the government? It sounds like a great idea—like so much of the siren song of socialism.
First, we should say, “Democrats want to destroy Medicare.” If they give it to everybody, they will destroy it.
Medicare is meant for older Americans who have paid into their entire working lives. And it has serious financial problems now. If you add 200 million more people to it, you will destroy it.
Second, Democrats don’t want healthcare for everyone. They really want government bureaucrats to control your healthcare. They will decide which doctor you can see, what procedure you can get and when it is available. It won’t result in everyone having healthcare. It will lead to rationing—denying people healthcare.
Third, it won’t be “free.” No matter how much you tax billionaires, they don’t have enough wealth to pay for it. As the Washington Post editorial board put it, “Medicare for all means taxes for all”—including the voters who elected socialists.
Polling Problems
Everyone involved in politics and public policy, including me, cites polls. But the polling industry is broken, and it’s been broken for a while. For example:
- Before the primary, polls in Michigan gave Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed an average lead of 10 points. He won by just one point.
- Polls in Minnesota gave Peggy Flanagan a five-point lead over Angie Craig. Flanagan won by 20.
- Polls in Wisconsin gave Francesca Hong a 23-point lead. She lost by 0.5%.
Today, many Americans simply will not talk to pollsters. They don’t know if it’s a legitimate survey or some whacked-out group trying to get information that could hurt them. Fox News polls were some of the worst. They were never able to capture the blue-collar wave that led Donald Trump to defeat the Bush and Clinton dynasties in 2016.
And since polls aren’t reliable, we should work and pray (and donate) like we are way behind—because it is very possible that we are.
Inflation Cools
There is good news on the inflation front. In June, the year-to-year inflation rate was 3.5%. This morning, the Labor Department reported that the year-to-year inflation rate in July was 3.4%. While we would all like to see a bigger drop, at least it’s moving in the right direction!
