Supremes Torpedo Tariffs; Trump Immediately Launches Plan B

After more than three months of deliberation and delay, the Supreme Court finally announced a decision on tariffs. The justices struck a 6 to 3 blow against President Trump’s strategy. It took President Trump only three hours to announce his response to protect American workers and industries. 

First, let’s look at what the court did. 

The Supreme Court struck down President Trump’s tariffs issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Chief Justice Roberts, Justice Gorsuch, and Justice Barrett joined the court’s three liberals in ripping out a key pillar of the president’s economic and foreign policy agenda. 

President Trump’s tariffs raised more than $200 billion last year and were on track to raise $350 billion this year. But they accomplished far more than that. Trump’s tariffs were a powerful negotiating tool. 

They were crucial to achieving his important trade deals, getting American companies to bring their factories home, and bringing trillions of dollars of foreign investment to the United States. And they literally ended wars and saved lives.

In his dissenting opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas excoriated the court’s majority. He wrote:

“Throughout American history, the authority to ‘regulate importation’ has been understood to include the authority to impose duties on imports. . . Since the 1790s, Congress has consistently delegated to the President power over foreign commerce, including the power to impose duties on imports. . . 

“This Court has consistently upheld Congress’s delegation of power [to the president] over foreign commerce, including the power to impose duties on imports. . . In today’s cases, neither the statutory text nor the Constitution provide a basis for ruling against the President.”

Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) condemned the ruling. In a post on social media, Moreno wrote:

“[The Supreme Court’s] outrageous ruling handcuffs our fight against unfair trade that has devastated American workers for decades. These tariffs protected jobs, revived manufacturing, and forced cheaters like China to pay up. Now globalists win, factory investments may reverse, and American workers lose again. 

“This betrayal must be reversed, and Republicans must get to work immediately on a reconciliation bill to codify the tariffs that had made our country the hottest country on earth!”

If the court and RINOs thought they had the president in checkmate, he made it clear they were playing checkers. President Trump is not backing down. 

Plan B

Speaking at a White House press conference this afternoon, President Trump blasted today’s ruling as “deeply disappointing,” and he did not spare the justices. Trump said:

“I am absolutely ashamed of certain members of the court for not having the courage to do what is right for our country. . . They’re just being fools and lapdogs for the RINOs and the radical left Democrats. They’re very unpatriotic and disloyal to our Constitution.”

But President Trump also said, “The good news is that there are [other] methods, practices, statutes, and authorities, as recognized by the entire Court in this terrible decision.” He added that those other authorities “are even stronger.” Then, the president made this announcement:

“Therefore, effective immediately, all national security tariffs . . . remain in place and in full force. Today, I will sign an order to impose a 10% global tariff under Section 122 over and above our normal tariffs already being charged. And we’re also initiating several Section 301 and other investigations to protect our country from unfair trading practices of other countries and companies.”

While there are certain limitations regarding the use of Section 122 and 301 tariffs, there is no ambiguity about the president’s authority to impose tariffs under those provisions.

Pro-Abortion Extremism

State legislators in Oregon voted this week on a really modest and compassionate proposal. The bill simply stated that if a baby is born alive after a failed abortion attempt, the baby must be treated with the same level of medical care that any other baby born prematurely would receive. 

This is rare, but it happens. There are documented cases of what is euphemistically referred to as “after-birth abortions.” I have met people who survived an abortion attempt by their mothers. 

This is not a complicated issue. You have a living baby outside the womb. At this point, it’s no longer about abortion. It’s about infanticide, which the overwhelming majority of Americans not only oppose, but also find abhorrent. 

If you’re not going to save a baby that survived an abortion, what’s not being said is that you’re going to kill the baby by denying that child medical treatment and just letting nature take its course. 

Well, the Democrat supermajority in the Oregon legislature voted down this very modest proposal to save even just a few babies. They voted for infanticide. 

This is why I say with no sense of exaggeration that the Left is a cult. It has devolved into a demonic religion. And like all demonic religions throughout history, one of its sacraments is child sacrifice.

Children At Risk

Here’s another example of left-wing extremism. 

Should children be allowed to have access to pornographic websites? Again, this is not a controversial issue—83% of voters support age verification mechanisms to access “explicit content” online. At least half of the states now have laws requiring users to verify their age in order to access adult content online.

But transgender Minnesota State Rep. Leigh Finke (D) opposed a bill requiring age verification to prevent children from viewing pornographic sites. How could any elected politician possibly justify their opposition to such a widely popular idea to protect kids?

Finke argued that “queer kids” need access to pornography for “educational purposes.” 

If you think about it, there’s no way to tell when a child goes online whether they are straight, homosexual, or whatever. But that’s the argument some leftists are using to ensure all children have access to porn sites. 

In recent months, Democrats have tried to regain their footing on the transgender issue by claiming they are the “compassionate” ones helping and protecting children by supporting so-called “gender-affirming care.” It’s the “mean, nasty Republicans” who are picking on vulnerable children.

Of course, it’s the exact opposite. Republicans are trying to protect children. Sterilizing and mutilating children is a sick and perverted idea of “compassion.” 

Now Democrats are arguing for all kids to watch porn. 

The neo-Marxist Left—from Mayor Mamdani in New York City to this trans legislator in Minnesota and the majority of the Oregon state legislature—are fighting with every ounce of strength they have to totally dismantle our whole civilization. 

Dr. Dobson and I used to say, broadly speaking, that the battle in America is between people who believe God is and people who believe God isn’t. Some might say, “Oh, that’s a little harsh.” But we see it every day. 

Leftist politicians always say, “We’re going to do more for the poor. We’re going to help women.” But once they get power, as surely as night follows day, you get a radical agenda of open borders, abortion on demand, and transgender insanity pushed on our children.

The Intolerant Left

The Left condemns Donald Trump as a “dictator” and a “fascist,” while claiming the mantle of “compassion” and “tolerance.” The LGBTQ movement used the compassion and tolerance argument very effectively to advance their agenda. “How does who I love/marry affect you?” “We just want to live and let live.” 

Again, the truth is the exact opposite. The Left is increasingly dictatorial and fascist and has zero tolerance for anyone who disagrees with their radical agenda. 

Vermont, home of socialist Bernie Sanders, is completely dominated by the Left, which tells people what to think and say. Melinda and Casey Mathieu, a Christian couple who applied to be foster parents, found out the hard way. 

The couple was forced to participate in LGBTQ training, including medically “transitioning” children. When Melinda posted on Facebook about a petition urging a school district to inform parents if their child is assuming a new gender identity at school, she got a call from the Vermont Department of Children and Families questioning her “wrongthink.” 

Melinda and Casey were told they must “affirm” a child’s gender delusions or their foster care license would be revoked. The Department of Children and Families may as well put out a notice saying, “Christians, conservatives, and believers in common sense and biological reality need not apply.”

While there was a good resolution to this dispute, the fact that it happened at all shows that once the Left gets power, “live and let live” goes out the window. 

Left-wing Hate

The Left’s nonstop demonization of our federal immigration police has caused another violent attack. Some lunatic stole an ambulance from a local hospital in Meridian, Idaho, loaded it up with gasoline cans, and then drove into a Department of Homeland Security office. 

After crashing through the glass doors, this lunatic got out, poured more gasoline inside and around the ambulance, and then attempted to set it on fire. Thankfully, he fled the scene before he could actually ignite a fire. 

Meanwhile, his ideological “soulmates” in Congress have defunded and shut down the Department of Homeland Security. So, anyone working at that Idaho office isn’t getting paid, and the activist base of the Democrat Party is trying to set them on fire.

Good News

• California activists have collected 1.3 million signatures, far more than needed, to put a state version of the SAVE Act election integrity law on the ballot.
• The Kansas legislature overrode the Democrat governor’s veto to enact a new law keeping men out of women’s bathrooms and boys out of girls’ bathrooms.
• A major New York City hospital system has stopped performing gender-denying medical experiments on children.
