Left-wing Lunacy

It's generally accepted that one of the ways to measure a person's character is to see how they react in a crisis.  Do they rise to the occasion or are their worst instincts magnified?

Well, the past two days have been very revealing.  The leaders of the Democrat Party have contributed little of value to the national debate, and have only done their best to exacerbate our pain.  In the wake of the Uvalde tragedy, Democrats and radicals all over the country showed their true colors.  Here are some of the "lowlights."

Joe Biden

After returning from Asia, President Biden ran to the TV cameras and began going through the motions of comforting grieving parents.  But within mere minutes, he was yelling at conservatives, attacking law-abiding gun owners, mocking hunters and berating his political opponents.

The so-called "solutions" Biden and other Democrats are demanding would do nothing.  (Here and here.)  Meanwhile, they have blocked common-sense measures.  (Here and here.)

The Uvalde shooter purchased his weapons legally.  He passed background checks.  There are already laws against murder and carrying weapons on school grounds.

Criminals intent on committing illegal acts are going to break the law – any law that might be passed. That's what makes them criminals.

Polling shows that the American people understand that, and they reject so-called "gun control" solutions of the left.  For example, the latest Harvard/Harris poll found that by a whopping 30-point margin, voters favored tougher enforcement of existing gun laws (65%) over passing new gun laws (35%).

Beto O'Rourke

Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott brought federal, state and local leaders, as well as law enforcement officials together in Uvalde.  They were there with citizens and reporters desperate for more information.

But in the middle of this important press conference, Abbott's opponent in the governor's race, Democrat Beto O'Rourke (who has no accomplishments to his name), staged a situation in order to make himself the center of attention and to attack Gov. Abbott.

Imagine being a fly on the wall in the O'Rourke campaign strategy meeting to hear how they plotted that ambush.  Did anyone suggest it might be a bad idea?  Will anyone resign in protest?

Most candidates suspend their campaigns when tragedy strikes.  But O'Rourke put his campaign on steroids in order to exploit the tragedy.

I strongly suspect that the next round of polling in the Texas governor's race will show that O'Rourke's performance yesterday fell flat with the voters.

And kudos to Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin who said exactly what everyone was thinking!

Barack Obama

No gallery of destructive rogues would be complete with out Barack Hussein Obama.  Within hours of the horror, he launched into an attack on supporters of the Second Amendment and the Republican Party.  And he was at it again yesterday.

As the nation was still trying to process what had happened and why, Obama felt it would be useful to say this:

"As we grieve. . . we should take time to recognize that two years have passed since the murder of George Floyd under the knee of a police officer. . . In the aftermath of his murder, a new generation of activists rose up . . . launching a movement to raise awareness of systemic racism and the need for criminal justice and police reform."

Let's parse that statement.

At a time when the country desperately wants to come together, Obama wants to remind us that this is a "systemically racist" nation.  He chooses to express his – I don't know what exactly – "glee" that George Floyd's death launched a jihad against law enforcement that most Americans have watched with horror over the past two years.

That "movement" burned cities across the country.  It resulted in more than a dozen deaths and the destruction of an untold number of businesses and livelihoods. But that's not all.

It resulted in our current "catch and release policies" in Democrat-run cities that turn felons out of jail within hours of their arrest.  The "movement" Obama is bragging about caused the defunding of police in liberal cities.  Some reversed course, but many did not, even as the inevitable crime wave has continued to grow.

Homicide rates are surging.  Happy now, Mr. Obama?

The anti-police rhetoric of Obama, Biden and numerous radical Democrat mayors resulted in security officers being kicked out of schools across America because we can't have "systemically racist" police officers triggering some fragile snowflakes.

But I guess I should thank Obama for reminding us just how insane the left truly is, and how it is responsible for the deaths of Americans of all races.

A Frightening Coincidence?

This morning, I happened to stumble upon a disturbing local San Antonio news report from 2018.  It was about the arrest of two Uvalde teenagers, 13 and 14, who were plotting a Columbine-style attack on a local school.

Is it possible that one of those two teenagers was the murderer who carried out this week's horrific attack?  Officials said he had "no known criminal or mental health history."  If he was one of the two arrested teenagers in 2018, then the system failed.

But if it is totally unrelated, it sure is a bizarre and frightening coincidence that in such a small town over the course of four years two students would be arrested for plotting such an evil attack, and a third would carry it out.

Tuesday's Results

The media (openly) and the Republican establishment (quietly) are spinning the results of Tuesday's elections to suggest that Donald Trump's influence in the Republican Party is waning.  As usual, they're wrong.

While Trump-endorsed primary challengers to Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger were clobbered in Georgia, Trump's record remains extremely impressive at 100-6.

Meanwhile, the latest Harvard/Harris poll finds Trump leading the 2024 GOP presidential primary with 41%.  Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is a distant second with 12%, and no other candidate is in double digits.

If one is looking for Republican leaders who are losing influence, it would be much more accurate to look to Texas.

George P. Bush, son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush and grandson of the late President Bush, lost 249 out of 254 counties in the runoff election for attorney general.  It's safe to say that the Bush dynasty officially ended on Tuesday.

Border Security Is National Security

In all the sorrow and headlines from Uvalde, here's a story you may have missed.

An Iraqi immigrant in the country on a business/visitor's visa was arrested Tuesday on charges of plotting with ISIS to assassinate former President George W. Bush

What jumped out at me is that this radical Islamist was evidently reading the news and realized it was relatively easy to bring assassins across Joe Biden's wide open southern border.

Last year alone, nearly two dozen suspected terrorists were caught at the southern border.  One individual on the terrorist watch list was caught at the border this April and then released into the country!  He was only captured after a frantic two-week manhunt.

FBI Director Christopher Wray was testifying on Capitol Hill yesterday. Of course, he tried very hard to avoid taking sides on the border issue.  But in response to repeated questions from Republicans, Wray eventually conceded that border security is a critical issue, and that our border officials "have a very tough job."

That's an understatement!

Keeping gangs, drugs, suspected terrorists and criminal illegal aliens out of the country certainly is a tough job.  Our Border Patrol agents deserve our respect and full support.  But they're not getting it from the Biden Administration, which has attacked them and made their jobs virtually impossible!
