Thursday, December 5, 2019 -- Pelosi's All In, About That Hearing, Trump's Triumph

Pelosi's All In

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed reporters in the Capitol this morning at 9:00 AM.  To no one's surprise, Pelosi declared that she was all in on impeaching President Donald Trump.  After warning that our "democracy was at stake," Pelosi ordered Jerry Nadler "to proceed with articles of impeachment."

What a sham and what a scam.  (This is a good time to make the most generous donation you can to help American Values fight impeachment!)

Democrats simply have not made the case for impeachment.  Polls show independent voters are increasingly turned off by the left's Trump Derangement Syndrome.

All the left is accomplishing at this point is to further exacerbate the political divisions tearing America apart.  That flies in the face of everything leading Democrats have said in the past about impeachment, which is the political equivalent of capital punishment.

For example, in 1998 one leading Democrat said this:

"We must not overturn an election and remove a president from office . . . without an overwhelming consensus of the American people. There must never be a narrowly-voted impeachment or an impeachment supported by one of our major political parties and opposed by the other."

That was Jerry Nadler, the man now leading the charge to remove a president without the overwhelming consensus of the American people.  But 1998 is ancient history.  Here's something more recent:

"Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there's something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country."

That was Speaker Nancy Pelosi just eight months ago.  But there is nothing "compelling and overwhelming" about this impeachment effort.  It is all based on conjecture, opinions and hearsay.

And it certainly isn't bipartisan.  In fact, the only bipartisan aspect of this impeachment effort is the opposition to it.  No Republican supported the House impeachment resolution and two Democrats voted against it.  As Rep. Kevin McCarthy correctly pointed out, Pelosi isn't even meeting her own standards.

Meanwhile, in spite of Pelosi's declaration this morning, there is growing division within the Democrat caucus about how to proceed.

About That Hearing. . .

I want to revisit yesterday's hearing in the House Judiciary Committee because it put on full display the deep division within our country and exposed the extreme hatred of the progressive left.

Stanford Law Professor Pamela Karlan used her opening statement to exploit the president's son.  Attempting to compare the president to a king, she said, "The Constitution states that there can be no titles of nobility. So while the president can name his son Barron, he can't MAKE him a baron."

Melania Trump, our low-key first lady, was quick to defend her son, as any mother would.

I exposed Professor Karlan on Twitter yesterday and 10,000 people viewed my comments.  Go to OurAmericanValues.org and make a donation to help us increase our social media activities.

But how deranged do you have to be to think we are living in a dictatorship?  This president has faced unprecedented obstruction and near universal opposition from the liberal media.

How hate-filled do you have to be to think that this president is a king?  Trump has been blocked more times than any previous president by unelected liberal judges.

The New York Times once described Karlan as "an Antonin Scalia for the left," and she is reportedly on the short list of possible Supreme Court nominees for the next liberal president.

The comparison to Scalia is outrageous.  The late justice was a strong defender of the Constitution as it was written.  Karlan and her fellow progressives are at war with the Constitution and the country our Founding Fathers created.

Another witness, Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman, lied to the committee.  He told Rep. Matt Gaetz that he had been an "impeachment skeptic" and only came around to the idea after the July 25th phone call between Trump and the leader of Ukraine.

That's false.  Professor Feldman called for Trump's impeachment over a tweet in March of 2017!  But it's not really a lie because the left-wing moral relativists believe truth is whatever advances the progressive cause.

And while most Americans have spent the past 19 years deeply concerned about the dangers of Islamic supremacism, Professor Feldman has strangely spent much of his time evangelizing for Sharia law.

For example, Feldman fought efforts to guarantee religious liberty in the post-Saddam Hussein Iraqi constitution.  And in a 2008 New York Times op-ed, he exaggerates every possible flaw of Old English Common law while almost romanticizing Sharia law.

Watching Professors Karlan and Feldman testify yesterday, I was reminded of one of my favorite Ronald Reagan quotes:  "The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so."

Trump's Triumph

President Donald Trump returned from the NATO summit with several major achievements.  But you wouldn't know it from the media coverage because left-wing pundits are trying to convince you it was a complete failure.

Here's what you're not hearing from the nightly news:  Thanks to Donald Trump's "tough love," our European NATO allies are finally meeting their defense spending commitments and have boosted their defense spending by $30 billion

In addition, NATO is recognizing China as a significant threat for the first time in its 70-year history.

No Joke

Unfortunately, that's not what the media are talking about.  No, they're mocking Trump because French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were seen laughing about Trump.  The media want you to believe that the world sees Trump as a big joke.

But think about this:  If bad people ever tried to do something to France or Canada, who do you think Macron and Trudeau will call first?  That's right -- they will be calling Donald Trump and begging for America's help to save their skin.

While I'm not surprised by the media's instinct to join in Europe's mocking of our president, I was surprised to see Joe Biden getting in on the act.  His campaign tweeted out a video with the caption, "The world is laughing at President Trump."

Really, Joe?

That might play well with Blue Coast progressives, but I don't think the blue collar voters of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will think it's funny that a couple of foreign socialists are laughing at our president who wants to make America great again.
