Smearing Our Heroes

I saw a lot of uplifting things over the very poignant Memorial Day weekend, like this report about retired Marine Master Sergeant Timothy Chambers.

The tribute to our fallen heroes that usually takes place on the Washington Mall was done without the usual big crowds.  But it was an extremely well done and moving tribute. The president and vice president marked the day with events at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at Fort McHenry outside Baltimore.

Sadly, some progressives were up to their old tricks. The mayor of Baltimore demanded that the president not go to Fort McHenry and used the coronavirus as the pretext.

Several monuments to our war dead were vandalized over the weekend. One in Pittsburgh was spray-painted with the hammer and sickle, the symbol of communism.  But the most disturbing thing came courtesy of the New York Times.

On Memorial Day weekend, the "Old Gray Lady" ran an editorial entitled, "Why Does The U.S. Military Celebrate White Supremacy?"  As evidence, the Times noted that a number of military bases are named after southern historical figures.

That's right. They chose the weekend during which we honor the men and women of all races and ethnic backgrounds who have laid down their lives for this country to attack the military for white supremacy.

Shame on them!  This is the kind of idiocy that exemplifies progressives today.

We can sand-blast the paint off our memorials.  But purifying the hearts that are being infected with the left's hatred of America will be a lot harder.

Covering Up For Communist China

Communist China is ratcheting up its rhetoric against the United States, warning of a new cold war.  And Beijing is being especially aggressive, attacking several members of Congress by name, insisting that they will pay a price for attempting to hold the communist regime accountable for the coronavirus.

Among the lawmakers identified are:  Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Martha McSally (R-AZ), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Representatives Jim Banks (R-IN), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Lance Gooden (R-TX) and Chris Smith (R-NJ).

Meanwhile, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has established a special committee to investigate the coronavirus.  But the purpose of this committee is not to find out the truth about the coronavirus.

We can say this because committee Republicans have asked several times to investigate China's actions and responsibility for the virus, but the Democrat majority has refused every time.

By the way, did you notice something about all the names I listed above?  They're all conservative Republicans.

Why aren't there any Democrats on Beijing's "hit list"?  Would the Chinese Communist Party denounce liberal Democrats?  Of course it would, if any Democrats were just as vehement in denouncing the CCP as they are in denouncing Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

Confronting communist China for its responsibility for the coronavirus – or its rampant espionage, predatory trade practices, aggressive military buildup and gross human rights abuses – shouldn't be a partisan issue.

But when it comes to taking down Donald Trump, it seems that Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats are on the same page as communist China!

Return To Normal

We've been pointing out the absurdity of the pandemic's Nervous Nellies and how there is evidence of a political motive at work to keep this country shutdown.  The investigative reporters were really on it this weekend when they told us that President Trump played a round of golf!

But the media are really failing to adequately describe the entire situation when they ignore what is happening in the nation's nursing homes.  Doing so would spotlight one scandal while demonstrating the relatively low risk to the rest of the population.

Let me give you an example from Fairfax County, Virginia, where I live, just outside of Washington, D.C.

I have seen people in this area driving in their cars with face masks on.  I saw a neighbor washing his car in his driveway with a face mask on.  This is insane!

The Washington, D.C., metro area, which includes the Maryland and northern Virginia suburbs surrounding the nation's capital, is being described by Dr. Deborah Birx, whom I admire, as a regional "hot spot."

Well, what are the facts?

Thanks to real journalism by the Washington Examiner's Susan Ferrechio, we now know this:  There have been 330 Covid-related deaths in Fairfax County, Virginia, which has a population of 1.1 million people.  Of those 330 deaths, 75% of them (248) occurred in area nursing homes.

In fact, ABC News reports that, "In at least 18 states, nursing home deaths account for over 50% of coronavirus-related deaths."  That speaks volumes about the nature of this disease.

I feel terribly for the families who have lost loved ones.  But why are we destroying family-owned restaurants and other small businesses?  How does forcing local restaurants and other businesses to shut down have anything to do with these nursing home deaths?

Meanwhile, in North Carolina, Democrat politicians are refusing to give the Trump campaign any certainty about whether they can hold the Republican National Convention in Charlotte.

What's the horrible situation unfolding in the Tar Heel State?  There are 766 Covid-related deaths in a state with 10.5 million people.  For perspective, in 2017 three times as many North Carolinians died from drug overdoses.

Again, we need to quarantine the elderly and those with compromised immune systems and other serious health conditions.  The rest of us need to return to normal as quickly as possible.

She Said What?!

Rep. Ilhan Omar has a new memoir coming out.  I'm sure it will be at the top of every progressive's reading list this summer.

In an interview about her book, Omar declared to the Times of London, "I am America's hope and President Trump's nightmare."  There's so much I'd like to say about that, but I'll press on.

Omar suggested in the interview that she has learned from her previous offensive comments, but she still sounds like the same old Ilhan Omar who raised a communist daughter to hate capitalism and smear America's soldiers.

For example, Omar is still suggesting that America's support for Israel is "all about the Benjamins" by comparing the Jewish state to Saudi Arabia's "money and influence."

In her book, Omar describes herself as "small but a good fighter."  She tells a story about dragging down a larger boy and rubbing his face in the sand.   She offers another disturbing example of just how tough she really is.

This time, Omar is fighting in the girl's locker room of her Virginia middle school.  As she's pummeling her opponent, the other girls around her are yelling, "She's pregnant!"  Omar writes, "I didn't stop hitting."

Did you catch that?  Omar was bragging about physically harming a pregnant girl.

Omar may think she is "America's hope," but she is an embarrassment to our country, and, quite frankly, to any decent person in her congressional district.

Democrats will have a chance to dump her in the August primary.  But I'm not holding my breath.  Sadly, 65% of Democrat Party activists in her district just endorsed her.
