What Happened

You know what happened in Washington yesterday.  The left ran around with its hair on fire after Speaker Nancy Pelosi's impeachment press conference, which dominated the evening news.  But what you may not know is what President Trump accomplished yesterday.

His speech before the United Nations General Assembly was a powerful defense of his America First agenda.  Trump challenged the global elites and he made it clear that America will not be taken advantage of anymore.

With China's ambassador looking on, Trump reminded the world that 60,000 U.S. factories were lost because of unfair trade deals with China, and he warned that other nations are suffering in the same way.

Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, is in New York lying as usual and claiming the U.S. is the main terrorist force in world.  President Trump condemned the Iranian regime for its state-sponsorship of terrorism and its efforts to cause a second Holocaust through the annihilation of Israel.  (By the way, I did not hear one leading Democrat yesterday condemn Rouhani's lies.)

Trump stunned the United Nations when he declared that there is no universal right to abortion.  I don't recall any American president doing that before.

He told a room full of globalist bureaucrats that, "The future does not belong to globalists, it belongs to patriots."  He denounced open borders advocates for enabling human trafficking, and proudly declared that countries have a right to secure borders.

From the moment he got up yesterday to the moment he went to bed, Donald Trump was fighting for the interests of our country.  Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi and the Deep State got up and pursued impeachment first, which they know will tear this country apart.

Sadly, the chances of anything positive happening in Congress just evaporated.  The partisan gridlock was bad enough.  But Pelosi, who had been trying to restrain her left flank, just cranked up the crazy.

Speaker AOC?

Congratulations are in order to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.  It seems she is effectively the Speaker of the House now.

Just a few days ago, she tweeted that "the bigger national scandal" wasn't Trump, but her party's "refusal to impeach him."  When AOC tweets, Pelosi jumps.

Let's be clear about this:  Pelosi did not start formal impeachment proceedings.  To do that, the House of Representatives has to vote to begin that effort.  Instead, Pelosi called for an "official impeachment inquiry."  As the Wall Street Journal notes:

"Her chosen route avoids a full House floor vote on opening a probe, a step that has occurred each of the three previous times the House has launched impeachment proceedings against a president. Such a resolution would require 218 votes to pass."

Why didn't Pelosi call for a vote?  Because she doesn't want to force members in swing districts on the record.  Why not?  Because the latest polls show that only 32% of the public supports impeachment.

What she did was buy into House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler's "impeachment investigation."  The press has said there was some disagreement between Pelosi and Nadler, but they are now on the same page.

Here's the bottom line:  Pelosi's maneuver following AOC's tweet shows how radical left-wing politics is driving all of this.

Please stand with CWF now!

A Ukraine Primer

We've spent the last three years talking about Russia, Russia, Russia.  Why the sudden focus on Ukraine?

Well, the Russia hoax collapsed after Robert Mueller's testimony.  The left needed something else to hitch its impeachment bandwagon to.  So, the Deep State produced a leaked complaint claiming Trump had an inappropriate phone call with the president of Ukraine.

By the way, the intelligence community inspector general determined that the leaker had a political bias against the president.  Not surprisingly, the leaker is being represented by lawyers connected to Chuck Schumer and Hillary Clinton.

But just like the left's efforts to invite Russian meddling in our elections, the left is using Ukraine to meddle in our elections.

  • Last May Democrat senators wrote to Ukrainian leaders demanding they support the Mueller investigation of Donald Trump.
  • The DNC sent consultants to Ukraine to dig up dirt on Trump and Paul Manafort.
  • In 2016, the Obama Administration pressured Ukrainian officials to investigate Manafort and Roger Stone, who were associated with the Trump campaign.
  • Politico reported in January 2017 that Ukrainian officials were "scrambling" after their efforts to promote Hillary Clinton's campaign backfired after Trump's surprise victory.
  • And Ukrainian attempts to share information about those efforts have been repeatedly thwarted by Obama holdovers.

The Hill's John Solomon has done some of the best work connecting the dots and suggests that all of this may be leading to the source of the entire Deep State / Russia collusion conspiracy.

The Transcript

This morning, the White House released the transcript of Trump's 20-minute call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy.  In the call, Trump does raise concerns about the Ukrainian prosecutor who Joe Biden demanded be fired, and Trump says that there has been "a lot of talk about Biden's son. . . It sounds horrible to me."

That's essentially the extent of it.  Two presidents commiserating about corruption and draining the swamps in their respective countries.  Is that illegal?  Not according to the Justice Department.

The New York Times reports that the director of national intelligence and the inspector general for the intelligence community "each referred the complaint for a possible criminal investigation into the president's actions. . .  The department's criminal division . . . concluded that there was no basis for a criminal investigation into Mr. Trump's behavior."

So the Justice Department says there's no crime, but Democrats are demanding impeachment.

In fact, there is so little here that Charlie Cook, founder of the non-partisan Cook Political Report, tweeted, "I was totally underwhelmed by the transcript."

But more to the point, is Trump supposed to ignore the alleged corruption by Biden and his son?

Article II of the Constitution charges the president with faithfully executing our laws.  President Trump would have been derelict in his duties to not say something about the corruption in Ukraine that allegedly involved the former vice president and his immediate family members.  Being a candidate doesn't give Biden a free pass.

If elements of the Ukrainian government were involved in corrupt activity and involved in Deep State efforts to bring Trump down in the Russian collusion investigation, the president would be derelict in his duties if he did not try to get to the bottom of it.

And don't forget this:  Not only was Hunter Biden getting $50,000 a month from a Ukrainian energy company, he also ran a hedge fund with John Kerry's stepson.

They went to China together -- on one of Joe Biden's official trips -- and two weeks later the Chinese government invested $1.5 billion in Biden/Kerry hedge fund.  Does anyone think that the $1.5 billion Chinese investment would have happened if the hedge fund representatives were named Smith and Jones?

While we're at it, let's see the transcripts of Obama's calls with Vladimir Putin.  He promised to show more "flexibility" after his re-election.  And let's see transcripts of Obama's calls to Hassan Rouhani.  Let's see his letters to the ayatollah.

Enough, Mitt!

I went all out for Mitt Romney in 2012.  I had my qualms, but I was part of a private group that met with him at his home to get commitments on key issues.  In spite of my misgivings, I supported him because I knew he was better than four more years of Obama/Biden.

Many people have asked me how someone as good and decent as Romney could lose that election.  Well, he lost because he had no backbone.  He couldn't even stand up to Candy Crowley -- one of the debate moderators!

Now he seems intent on siding with the left as the leader of the GOP NeverTrump establishment.  He told reporters that he found the transcript "troubling in the extreme."

Charlie Cook is "underwhelmed" but Mitt is extremely troubled.  Give me a break!

What is "troubling in the extreme" is the left's support for infanticide, gun confiscation, free healthcare for illegal aliens and socialism!

To all the GOP House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill reading this daily report:  It is not enough to send out a little press release or a tweet or go on Fox News to defend the president.  This is the time to put on your big boy pants and head to the front lines.  That's where the left has gathered.

It cannot be left to Donald Trump, Mike Pence and a handful of congressional conservatives to carry this fight.
