No Laughing Matter

Comedian Jim Carrey is a funny guy on the big screen.  But give the man a paintbrush and he starts to act like something out of a horror movie.

Carrey recently shared a grotesque depiction he created of Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on social media. It portrays Ivey as a fetus undergoing a type of late-term abortion procedure in which the brains are sucked out of the baby's head.

Carrey's image includes a caption that reads, "I think if you're going to terminate a pregnancy, it should be done sometime before the fetus becomes the Governor of Alabama."

Carrey thought this was a funny way of responding to Ivey's signing last week of a law that bans abortions except in the case of a medical emergency.  But this is no laughing matter.  This is a serious issue.  It is literally about life and death.

Reasonable people can disagree about the Alabama law.  But there is a sickness on the radical pro-abortion side that's evident in this portrait.  When you are so devoted to the idea that an unborn person should have no legal protections, and is essentially the equivalent of a Styrofoam cup to be disposed of at will, that dehumanizing thinking warps you.

But Carrey's painting actually makes the opposite case than the one he intends. Carrey is asking us to imagine sucking out the brain of the governor, in effect advocating for her murder because she opposes the murder of innocent unborn babies through the same means.

I imagine Carrey was consumed by rage at the thought that unborn babies might be saved from the same gruesome outcome he dreams about forcing the governor to endure.

And what does it say about empathy and women's rights?  As a young girl, Ivey probably never imagined becoming governor.  Today, she is Alabama's second female governor.  She is a role model for strong young women who don't need to be told what to think.

The Radical Left Rallies

Dozens of radical left-wing groups are holding rallies across the country today to protest the recent successes of the pro-life movement.  They are attempting to rally support for their efforts to stop the "new wave of extreme bans on abortions."

Who are the groups behind today's rallies?  The usual left-wing suspects, of course.  Groups like the ACLU, the American Humanists Association, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation, the National Organization for Women, Shout Your Abortion and the Women's March.

As I have often argued, it's pro-abortion groups like these that are the extremists in the abortion debate.  Here's what you need to know:

  • The American people do not support abortion on demand.  The overwhelming majority of Americans support limits and restrictions on abortion.
  • A majority of Americans support heartbeat laws.  New polling found that 45% of voters say such laws are "too restrictive," 34% say they are "just right" and 21% say they are "too lenient."  That's a pro-life majority of 55% to 45%.

The real extremists are those on the left who can't think of one abortion they would prevent or one life they would save.

No Detentions = Open Borders

If I were to catalogue every insane position held by the 23 Democrat contenders for president, this report would be 20 pages a day.  So I try to stick to the occasions when their bizarre views are most revealing.

One of those moments occurred Sunday when New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand appeared on "Face The Nation."  Asked how she would handle the crisis at the border today, Gillibrand said:

"As president of the United States, I wouldn't use the detention system at all. . .  [Illegal immigrants] don't need to be incarcerated.  If they're given a lawyer and given a process, they will follow it."

Does Gillibrand have any idea what she is talking about?

We're supposed to provide attorneys to 5,000 people who are showing up at the border every day?

And she thinks that these people, many of whom are lying about the children with them, are going to show up in court?

The statistics don't support Gillibrand's claim.

But her assertion points to a bigger problem.  Today's Democrat Party is all in on open borders.  Gillibrand is arguing for "catch and release," which is really a de facto open borders policy.

President Trump wants to end "catch and release," but left-wing judges and politicians like Gillibrand are fighting him every step of the way.

Chaos In Paris

While Gillibrand was making the case for open borders on "Face the Nation," African migrants were making their case for open borders in Paris.  Hundreds of migrants shut down Charles de Gaulle Airport Sunday, demanding an end to the French government's deportation policies.

They were heard chanting, "France does not belong to the French! Everyone has a right to be here!"

This is the same nonsense that we heard from the organizers of the Central American migrant caravans.

Remember when the migrants issued a list of demands to our consulate in Tijuana?  Some migrants even sued the Trump Administration before they got here!

There are some who believe the populist movement in Europe has yet to hit its high water mark.  Protests like those in Paris may well galvanize many French citizens who do in fact believe that France belongs to the French.

We will learn more from the European Parliament elections later this week. Globalist Emmanuel Macron may find that he is a relic of the past, while Italy's populist leader Matteo Salvini is the face of the future.
