WASHINGTON, D.C. – “Yesterday, the voters of Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District were given a clear choice between a liberal and a conservative, and guess what: They voted their values and sent a wake-up call to the Washington establishment,” Campaign for Working Families Chairman Gary L. Bauer said Wednesday, following the upset primary victory of Pastor Tim Walberg.
Bauer made the following statement: “High powered endorsements couldn't cover-up the fact that the incumbent had been endorsed by Planned Parenthood and voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. The citizens of the Seventh District proved that voters do in fact care about these things; that they expect their party to stand on principle and they expect their elected representatives to fight for their values.
“The right to life and traditional marriage are not wedge issues, they are winning issues. Values issues are not distractions from the business of governing. They are central to the survival of our republic.
“The Values Voters of Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District spoke up last night, and I certainly hope their voice was heard loud and clear in the halls of Congress. I’m sure more than a few incumbents who voted against traditional marriage lost some sleep last night after watching these results. Campaign for Working Families will make sure they have a late night on November 7th.
“I thank Pastor Tim Walberg for having the courage to challenge a sitting incumbent and the leadership of his own party and I congratulate him on his outstanding victory. I look forward to working with Representative Walberg in Congress.” |
