WASHINGTON, D.C. – A historic victory in the Louisiana Senate race and wins in Senate races in South Dakota and North Carolina send a strong message to the Democratic Party, said former Presidential Candidate Gary Bauer on Wednesday. “Once again, we are seeing that America is culturally conservative, and the Democratic Party elites are too liberal and out of touch to consistently represent its people.”
Bauer, the Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, was active in campaigning nationwide to build up voter turnout, visiting such states as Louisiana, South Dakota and North Carolina, among others. He also invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in direct financial contributions to more than 60 House and Senate candidates committed to family, faith and freedom.
“It’s clear that while economic issues were important and the war was hotly debated, values issues played the largest role ever in a national election, with voters citing values as their number one or number two concern,” said Bauer, “that resulted in massive turnout among values voters which cut across ethnic, economic, party and other traditional groupings. Marriage and family were the ties that bind, not divide.”
To ensure that Congress retained its conservative majorities, CWF supported candidates in four dozen House races, including 11 challengers and 12 open seats. CWF also aided 25 incumbents, many of whom were targeted for defeat by the national Democratic Party and various liberal pro-abortion, pro-gay rights organizations. Early reports indicate that 34 House candidates endorsed by Bauer won.
Bauer congratulates the new incoming members of the 109th Congress endorsed by Campaign for Working Families PAC: Dr. Tom Price (GA-6), Lynn Westmoreland (GA-8), Geoff Davis (KY-4), Bobby Jindal (LA-1), Dr. Virginia Foxx (NC-5), Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Judge Louie Gohmert (TX-1), Judge Ted Poe (TX-2), Thelma Drake (VA-2) and Cathy McMorris (WA-5).
Through Campaign for Working Families PAC, Bauer also devoted considerable resources to expanding the Republican majority in the United States Senate. Campaign for Working Families was active in 13 Senate races, including six open seats and the all-important South Dakota contest between former Representative John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Eight CWF endorsed candidates appear to have won election to the United States Senate.
Gary Bauer congratulates John Thune, Dr. Tom Coburn, Mel Martinez, Jim DeMint, Richard Burr and David Vitter for their outstanding victories. |
