“The Massachusetts State Supreme Court removed all doubt today about its goal of radically rewriting the very fiber of American society,” former presidential candidate Gary L. Bauer said Wednesday, following that court’s 4-3 ruling that only gay “marriage” – not civil unions – would be sufficient to meet its demands for new, unprecedented legal recognition of gay relationships.
The chairman of Campaign for Working Families PAC went on to make the following statement: “In seeking to give same-sex couples all the social recognition and legal benefits of marriage, the activists on the state high court ignored the data of thousands of generations – that marriage is a unique institution built on a unique commitment of one man and one woman, resulting in unique and powerful social benefits to all of society that even cohabitating couples cannot equal. Their willingness to ignore all social and scientific data, all legal precedent, all historical evidence shows clearly that this is an agenda-driven, not law-driven decision.
“The Massachusetts Supreme Court clearly demonstrated two things: the continued arrogance of a few, liberal activists to remake America in their image, and the on-going assault against the institution of marriage which has been the basis for all societies for thousands of years.
“This radical assault on marriage through the courts must be stopped, and I am looking forward to working with the growing coalition of organizations committed to defending marriage and to working with this U.S. Congress and this President in amending our Constitution to provide an iron-clad guarantee of protection for marriage.” |
