WASHINGTON -- Gary L. Bauer, Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, one of America's leading conservative political action committees, today endorsed former Attorney General Mark Earley for Governor of Virginia. The former presidential candidate made the following statement:
"Throughout his political career, Mark Earley has taken strong, consistent stands on behalf of our pro-family, pro-life values. There's no second-guessing Mark Earley's beliefs. He stands with Virginia's families - for lower taxes, for less government, for family values and for the sanctity of human life. Mark Warner does not.
"While Mark Warner has tried desperately to sound like a conservative, he has refused to take positions on many important pro-family issues. Whether its abortion on demand, homosexual rights or lower taxes, Mark Warner's positions fail Virginia's working families and run contrary to their most deeply held beliefs. Just compare the candidates and its obvious who stands with Virginia's families and who stands against them.
| Issue | Mark Earley (R) | Mark Warner (D) |
| Ban partial-birth abortion | YES | No |
| Parental consent for abortion | YES | No |
| Repeal sales tax on food | YES | ??? |
| End the Car Tax as planned | YES | No |
| School choice | YES | No |
| Special rights for homosexuals | NO | Yes |
"The record is clear. Mark Earley is a proven leader with a history of outstanding public service in the state Senate and as Attorney General. He has the experience Virginia needs. Mark Warner does not.
"The issues are clear. As Governor, Mark Earley will fight for our values - for lower taxes and for pro-family, pro-life policies. Mark Warner will not.
"There is an old saying in politics, 'Personnel is policy.' The only way to guarantee that good policies are enacted is to elect good people to public office. That's why, as Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, and on behalf of thousands of families across Virginia, I am proud to offer Mark Earley our endorsement for Governor of Virginia." |
