BAUER CALLS FOR PRAYER

09/11/2001

Gary L. Bauer, Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families Political Action Committee, a witness to the explosion at the Pentagon and to the evacuation of Capitol Hill, spoke with great sorrow in the first hours of the aftermath of the greatest terrorist attack in U.S. history.

Mr. Bauer made the following statement:

"This is a time for prayer - for the families and friends of the victims who are grappling with shock, grief and loss at such a terrible moment in our nation's history. This is a time for prayer - for America - that shining city set on a hill over which, today, a smoldering cloud of death is hovering. This is a time for prayer - for our leaders, the President especially, and those helping him unravel this horror and bring justice on behalf of the men, women and children who have lost their lives today in an act of unspeakable violence.

I hope that all people everywhere will pause with me today to pray for America and those dear ones who have lost their lives."

Bauer was on his way to a news conference in Washington, D.C. when he witnessed the horror at the Pentagon from his car and later saw the tragedy of the evacuation of our great halls of government.

"This is a time for Americans to pull together and confront this great evil and tragedy," Bauer said.
