WASHINGTON -- Gary Bauer, former Republican presidential candidate and Campaign for Working Families Chairman, today issued the following statement on the Clinton administration's release today of guidelines for federally funded human embryo cell research.
"Allowing embryo cell research is just another example of snuffing out innocent life before it is even given a chance to live. Married couples have these beginning stages of life created with the goal of starting a family, not stem cell research.
"Time and time again, Congress has rightfully stopped federal funding for this type of procedure because it merely amounts to an even earlier stage of infanticide. By placing the burden on private researchers to destroy the embryos before passing the cells to federally funded researchers, the administration is attempting to side-step Congress' opposition to this procedure.
"As the final appropriation bills are brought before Congress in September, I call on the leadership in both chambers to put an immediate stop to this latest attempt to use tax-payer money to fund this procedure. We as a great nation can further the quality of life without destroying its genesis." |
