WASHINGTON, D.C. - Gary L. Bauer joined with 32 pro-life and pro-family leaders in announcing at the Shake the Nation Coalition news conference Monday a $3 million advertising campaign that will broadcast an historic trio - three of the former super heroes of the abortion industry saying that they lied about abortion. The Shake the Nation campaign is a pro-life project unprecedented for its collaboration by so many leaders in the pro-family movement.
Bauer, Chairman of the Campaign for Working Families PAC, made the following statement at the National Press Club news event, in which the national TV campaign on CNN, Fox and MSNBC was announced:
"It's a pleasure to stand together with so many leaders in the pro-life community - an extended family, really, of those concerned with all people, from the womb to their last days. One of the silliest lies told about the pro-life community is that we are only worried about the child while it's in the womb. It's a lie that deliberately overlooks the love in action seen in adoption and foster families. The front-line love of the crisis pregnancy centers which helps women get ready for the children to come, the love of the local churches and synagogues, who have people available to provide practical help, the love of the many charitable organizations dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people - that's the truth of the pro-life community.
"It's an amazing thing to see in this television ad three former heroes of the abortion industry courageous enough to acknowledge that the case for abortion was built on lies. But the lies continue today.
"Like the lie that the child in the womb is a clump of tissue, not a human being. Like the lie that women will be fulfilled by taking an innocent human life … that somehow this barbaric thing will make her life better. Like the lie that this will help her health - mental or physical - rather than the truth that it leaves, as so many survivors of abortion have said, a gaping wound in their lives. Or like the lie that the abortion industry cares about making abortion safe … when the truth is that they've done everything they can to make sure abortion clinics are not regulated for safety. A dog has more protection at a veterinary clinic than a woman in the makeshift, surgical settings called abortion clinic.
"It has been a hallmark of the abortion debate that lies have been broadcast as truth, and people have suffered for it. Let's hope that this campaign is the beginning of a new season in which the reality of abortion makes the headlines … rather than the public relations nonsense from the lobbyists for a million-dollar abortion industry. The abortion industry needs to have some truth in advertising … and we're going to help them with that."
