Stop Hagel!

As I reported yesterday, there is a real chance to still stop Obama’s nomination of former Senator Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense. Hagel is anti-Israel and soft on Iran, and he would make it easy for Obama to decimate the budget of the Department of Defense.

Hagel’s testimony in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee was widely seen as inept and disingenuous. Nonetheless, the majority of Democrats...

State Of The Union

If you didn’t stay up for the State of the Union last night, I don’t blame you. It offered little in the way of innovative policy proposals or bipartisan aisle-crossing and instead focused on a recitation of Obama’s first term “accomplishments” and an unapologetic defense of Big Government. Only many of Obama’s claims were dubious at best. It would take twenty pages to examine all of Obama’s claims,...

What’s He Hiding?

The Senate Armed Services Committee was scheduled to vote today on Chuck Hagel's nomination to be Secretary of Defense. If his nomination is voted out of committee, some Senate Republicans are signaling that they are prepared to filibuster Hagel’s nomination, a move that would require that Hagel receive 60 votes in the Senate to be confirmed. Hagel may not have enough support in the Senate to beat a filibuster.

Hagel still hasn’...

The Neurosurgeon’s Speech

Do you remember last year’s National Prayer Breakfast? Obama used the occasion to exploit the Gospel to justify his big government agenda. He took Christ’s teaching about the personal obligation of Christians to help those in need and twisted it to justify government using the force of law and potential criminal penalties to take money from successful people and give to groups that Obama favors (and who not coincidentally vote for him in...

No Deal!

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, released a statement yesterday rejecting the so-called “modification” submitted by the Obama administration to the HHS contraceptive mandate.

The administration had proposed allowing more religious groups to opt out of having to directly pay for the employees’ contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs. But it offered no exemptions for...

Obama MIA On 9-11?

Remember during the Democratic presidential campaign in 2008 when Hillary Clinton ran an ad asking the American people whom they trusted more to look out for America’s interests when the inevitable emergency phone call came in at 3 AM? It was an effective ad because it highlighted Obama’s lack of qualifications, especially on foreign policy.

It turns out that on the most important foreign policy challenge of his first term...

Boy Scouts Update

The Boy Scouts of America said today that it is delaying its decision on whether to admit homosexuals as scouts or scoutmasters. Facing pressure from both sides of this debate, the Scouts will not vote on gay membership until the group’s annual meeting in May. The delay is an indication that your phone calls and emails are having an impact as well as ads like the one we cosponsored in USA Today.

About 70% of Scout units...

Obama Has No Credibility

I’m writing this in the middle of the afternoon and like clock-work President Obama just interrupted my regular TV programming to make a statement that the media feel we need to hear.

Alas, Obama’s brief press statement was not must-see TV. He announced that he wants Congress to delay a package of automatic spending cuts—known here in Washington as sequestration—that are set to take place on March 1st ...

That’s No Compromise

After more than a year of heated debate, the Obama Administration issued a “modification” late on Friday to the Obamacare mandate requiring employers to pay for their employees’ contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs. The administration is under court order to revise its rules, and the new regulations supposedly expand the number of religious organizations that can opt-out of the mandate. But it offers no...

"Shock & Disbelief"

With 55 Democrat votes in the Senate, Barack Obama's cabinet nominations should be a slam dunk. But in recent days, many senators refused to take a position on Obama's controversial nomination of former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense. They said that they would wait until after the confirmation hearing to make a decision.

The hearing is over and Hagel's fate remains far from certain. The...
