Rep. Wolf Retires From The House

Representative Frank Wolf (R-VA), a true "warrior" in defense of religious liberty, has announced he will not run for re-election in 2014. That's the bad news. The good news is that the congressman made it clear that he was not leaving the battle but only leaving the House.

The statement released by Rep. Wolf makes it clear where his heart is. He said:

"As a follower of Jesus, I am called to work for justice and...

Obama's Plunge

One year ago Barack Obama had just defeated Mitt Romney to win his second presidential term. Basking in the glow of victory, his spirits sky-high, Obama would grab the Washington Post, and see a front page poll that brought him even more cheer. When asked who they trusted to do a better job coping with the problems the nation faced, the American people chose Obama over Republicans in Congress by an astonishing 50 to 35 percent.

Backlash To Ryan Deal Grows

Is the Ryan-Murray budget deal going to die in the Senate? It’s entirely possible. The budget deal gets $6 billion of its “savings” by implementing cuts in military retirees' pensions. Republican senators are not happy, and more of them are announcing that, because of the cuts, they will vote “No.” Veterans of Foreign Wars has come out strongly against the provision.

Democrats have a clear majority in...

Capital Prayer Alert

As you know, my wife, Carol, prepares a prayer alert about once a month. I hope you will share Carol's thoughts with your friends and fellow worshippers. Thank you for taking an interest in her monthly devotion. -- Gary

With Christmas less than two weeks away, it is easy to get caught up in the rush of preparations: cards for friends near and far, shopping for gifts for the special people in our lives,...

The Dog That Didn’t Bark

It has been 24 hours since the Ryan-Murray deal hit Washington, and, as I feared, Republicans are forming their usual circular firing squad in attacking the deal. House Minority leader John Boehner lashed out at conservative groups with over-the-top rhetoric. Meanwhile, Texas Senator Ted Cruz called the deal “deeply concerning,” and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul called its increased funding “shameful.”...

How Low Can He Go?

Late last month, President Obama quipped about his low approval ratings, “[T]he good thing about when you're down is that usually you got nowhere to go but up.” But Obama’s statement was premature at best.

A new Quinnipiac University poll finds the president’s approval rating has dipped to 38 percent among registered voters, with barely one in...

Government Shutdown

The federal government is officially shut down in Washington today. The culprit responsible for this outrage is not congressional conservatives but a small winter storm that is expected to drop a whole five inches of snow on the metro area. Obama is in South Africa for the Mandela funeral. Negotiations, in spite of the weather, are continuing on Capitol Hill for some...

The Obamacaid Time Bomb

You might have noticed that the liberal media are peddling a new Obamacare narrative: the Obamacare website, healthcare.gov, is up and working and getting better every day. But the real problem with Obamacare is not that the website didn’t work but rather that the program to which the...

Nelson Mandela, RIP

Nelson Mandela, who passed away yesterday at the age of 95, was an extraordinary man. He led the fight against the odious system of apartheid in South Africa, spent 27 years in prison and emerged from that ordeal to become the first black leader of his country.

Fortunately for South Africa, during his prison years Mandela ended his flirtation with Marxism and chose upon his release to be a voice for reconciliation, not revenge. Sadly, however, he retained...

Barack Bows To Beijing

When China recently attempted to assert control over the Senkaku Islands, claimed by Japan, by arbitrarily extending an air defense zone over the islands, America's initial response was the correct one: We sent two B-52s flying through the air space.

But today Foreign Policy reports that signals from leading officials at the White House and the Pentagon indicate that Obama is once again backing down.

Vice President Joe Biden and...
