Senate Begins Debate On Second Amendment
The Senate Judiciary Committee today began hearings on legislation aimed at limiting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens. The committee began the hearing with an emotionally powerful statement from former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot and critically injured two years ago by a madman.
In his opening statement, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), the ranking Republican... |

Standing With Israel & Against Chuck Hagel
The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing this Thursday to consider Barack Obama's ill-conceived and dangerous nomination of former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense.
Last night I was honored to attend a great gathering of pro-Israel Christians in Washington, D.C. With just a week's notice, Christians United for Israel Action Fund brought 500 people from 46 states to our... |

Sending Women To War
The Pentagon made history last week when Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced that he was lifting the ban on women serving in frontline, combat positions. The new policy is not going into effect immediately. It will be phased in, and the services will be permitted to request exemptions for specific posts such as elite units like Navy SEALs or Army Rangers.
Many on the left hailed the decision, saying equality demands... |

March For Life
The March for Life is always a highlight of my year in Washington. I spoke to a number of pro-life groups this morning, including the Right to Life delegation from my home state of Kentucky.
The good folks who come here each year, often braving the worst of Washington's winter weather, give me hope that someday our nation will see Roe v. Wade for what it is: a rejection of our nation's highest ideal -- that liberty is a gift from... |

Boehner Gets It (Finally?)
I know from reading the emails I get every day that Speaker John Boehner would probably not win an award for being Washington's most popular conservative. But speaking before the Ripon Society this week, he made it clear that he understands what the conservative movement is confronting in the Obama White House. Here's what Boehner said:
"And given what we heard yesterday about the president's... |

Hillary On The Hill
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally testified on Capitol Hill concerning what she knew about the murderous attack that took the lives of four brave Americans at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya. As expected, there were no major revelations from Clinton who, while admitting she was "responsible," denied she should be blamed.
Secretary Clinton did admit that she never read the repeated requests for additional security at the consulate.... |

"Obama The Liberated Liberal"
That's how one left-wing British newspaper described Barack Obama after yesterday's inaugural address. Obama hasn't stopped campaigning after his narrow popular vote victory in November. His second inaugural address was more of the same. It was not much different than his standard stump speech, just delivered on a grander stage.
But don't take my word for it. The Washingon Post's David... |

Hope
Today begins the second and final act of the Obama presidency. Suffice it to say that I do not believe the state of our union is what it should be. The national debt has exploded -- more than $6 trillion in the past four years alone. Taxes are higher. Government is bigger. The private sector is smaller.
Abortion continues. Our First and Second Amendment liberties are under siege. Marriage is on the verge of being redefined. America is being fundamentally... |

State Court Declares Unborn Child A Person With Rights
Last week the Alabama State Supreme Court issued a ruling that has not gotten the attention it deserves, especially as the nation prepares to mark the tragedy of 40 years of abortion on demand. The Alabama Supreme Court was considering two tragic cases of children born to mothers who were drug addicts. In one case, a baby boy, Timmy, died 19 minutes after birth due to "acute methamphetamine intoxication."... |
